At Associated Asphalt, we strive to build solutions-based relationships with our partners. This requires both technical prowess and an eagerness to collaborate on the right plan of action to fit each unique job. Our sales team plays a key role in making those connections and successes happen. Ajay Patel, Northeast Sales Manager, is part of the team supporting customers in our Northeast territory looking for a premium longitudinal joint solution like J-Band.
Patel joined Associated Asphalt in March of 2021 after a long, successful career in the oil and gas industry. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University and has leveraged his knowledge and experience in both engineering and business development roles throughout his 15 years in the industry.
“I’ve done all the things one can do in the engineering world and I got to the point where I wanted to try something different,” says Patel. “What we do is technical, so my engineering background helps me grasp the technical challenges we’re trying to solve faster.”
We look forward to seeing him leverage that technical prowess in working with our customers on projects that leverage one of our newer premium products, J-Band.
“The product was honestly what attracted me to the company in the first place,” he says. “As soon as I learned more about what they were trying to do with this product, it just made a lot of sense and I wanted to be a part of that.”
While everyone he’s interacted with at Associated Asphalt has been warm and welcoming, he’s especially enjoying working alongside David Powers and the rest of the sales team to get to know the sales process and look for opportunities to provide a different perspective from upstream of the supply chain. Beyond J-Band and how it can help challenges for Northeast departments of transportation, Patel expresses a keen interest in the wide variety of solutions Associated Asphalt products can provide.
“I understand how the environment works from a high-paced, high-demand perspective,” says Patel. “I just want to continue to add that kind of experience to what Associated Asphalt is building. I’m hoping to bring different perspectives to the table that can help push the product forward.”
Now that he’s had some time to settle in, he’s ready to get out in the field and see the application process.
“I just like to solve problems. People usually call it sales, but at the end of the day, you’re really just solving someone’s problem,” says Patel. It’s the ideal perspective to approach our solutions-based sales process with.
Outside of work, Patel spends time with his family as much as possible. His wife, Noelle, his golden doodle, and his 2-year-old son keep him busy enjoying the Greater Philadelphia area, enjoying outdoor activities, and staying active with running, cycling, and weight training. He also holds a 5th-Degree black belt in Tang Soo Do and holds the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
