The Winning Formula
J-Band® was formulated as a VRAM (Void Reducing Asphalt Membrane) to significantly reduce air voids in longitudinal joints from the bottom up. Applied under the longitudinal joint in new asphalt, the J-Band® migrates upward as hot mix is installed on the top layer to fill voids and block water and air from creating pockets that will later deteriorate the asphalt.
PennDOT Case Study on Using VRAM
Associated Asphalt has completed a case study documenting PennDOT’s 5-year work plan to investigate the use of void-reducing asphalt membrane (VRAM) for longitudinal joints and extending the life of asphalt pavement. PennDOT’s program led to the introduction of a VRAM Standard Special Provision that can be used on projects let on or after April 14, 2023.
