Bill leads the Company’s strategic planning and overall Company management. He has more than 44 years of energy-related experience. He joined the company in 1976 following a position with Shell, where he was responsible for retail outlets in Philadelphia. After joining the company in 1976, he was named Associated Asphalt Company President in 1988 and Chief Executive Officer in 1999. Bill served as Chairman of the Asphalt Institute in 2004 and 2011. He and his wife Shireen reside in Roanoke and are very active in the local community.

John joined Associated Asphalt in 2007 following 15 years with Koch Industries. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Kansas State University. John has more than 25 years’ experience in asphalt and the petroleum refining industry. He currently serves as Associated Asphalt’s Company President, responsible for leading the company’s strategies, culture, growth, and capabilities. He served as Chairman of the Asphalt Institute in 2014. He and his wife Dee Dee reside in Roanoke and are very active in the community.

James Hill joined Associated Asphalt in March of 2018 following 10 years with Kinder Morgan Terminals where he held various operational leadership positions including Operations Superintendent and culminating as the Regional General Manager responsible for Kinder Morgan Terminal’s Midwest operations. James possesses more than 24 years of operations and engineering management spanning across both the military and public sector. James currently serves as Chief Operating Officer, responsible for leading the organizations Environmental Health and Safety, Operations, and Transportation teams and is charged with developing, leading and sustaining the company’s culture, strategies, growth, and operational capabilities. James holds a Master’s of Science in Engineering Management and Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla and a Bachelor’s of Business in Management Information Systems from Drexel University. James and his wife Arianne reside in Roanoke, Virginia with their two sons.

Jason joined Associated Asphalt in January of 2020 and is responsible for the company's Finance, Accounting and Sales & Marketing efforts. Prior to joining the company, he was a Vice President in the Energy and Power Investment Banking Group at Wells Fargo, where he worked on a variety of M&A and capital markets transactions. Jason holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Rice University. He and his wife Erica reside in Roanoke with their three daughters.

Sam joined the Company in 1994 as the Product Manager for the Commercial Lube Oil operation. Through the years, Sam has held many operational roles as the company grew from two to 29 terminals currently. He has held direct roles involving Safety, Environmental and general terminal operations prior to being named Vice President of Operations in 2007. He has been responsible for terminal development and expansion as well as standard operations of multiple terminals including budgetary, capital development and spending and energy/natural gas management. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor in Liberal Arts Degree in 1990. Outside of work, Sam enjoys outdoor activities including mountain biking and surfing.

Gary joined the Associated Asphalt family in 2017, with over 25 years of petroleum operations experience. He spent several years in the United States Armed Forces before beginning his career as an operator in the asphalt industry. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from Colorado State University. Gary has held various leadership positions while working in the asphalt refining and terminal environments for the Citgo Petroleum Corporation, Nustar Energy and Axeon Specialty Products. He initially joined Associated Asphalt as a Regional Manager with operational oversight of 12 leased terminals and was later given an expanded role to oversee several company-owned facilities in addition to some of our leased facilities. Gary enjoys watching sporting events and going fishing when an opportunity arises to relax.

Danny is a native of the Roanoke Valley and began his career with Associated Asphalt in 1988. Through his tenure with the Company he has grown his career from Dispatch to Terminal and Fleet Manager with promotions to Director of Transportation in 2006 and most recently to Director of Sales & Logistics in 2010. Danny oversees the receipt of product through our rail network as well as service to customers through our fleet of tankers for delivery. He is a Virginia Tech fan, a golfer and is actively involved in his girls’ sports teams.

Kevin came to us with over 20 years of asphalt industry experience having served in a variety of capacities with Asphalt Materials, Koch Industries, SemMaterials and Road Science. His current responsibilities include Technical team leadership of Asphalt Formulation, Emulsion Formulation, and New Product Evaluation and Design; Bituminous Technologies Leadership in third-party testing, customer service, research and development; Developing strategies and key relationships for meeting current customer needs, producing and supplying on spec material, creating new products and service offerings that positively impact customer productivity, as well as Specialty Products development, product support, field support and team selling. Kevin holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Degree from Ohio Northern University. He is based out of Cumming, Georgia where he enjoys coaching middle school football, traveling with his wife and family and watching college football.

Chad joined Associated Asphalt in 2011 and leads our multi-faceted Sales & Marketing team. His responsibilities include Sales Management: Asphalt and Emulsion; Business Development; Formulating business strategies, developing key relationships with customers, suppliers and industry professionals, and marketing. He has over 20 years of asphalt industry experience including roles with Koch Materials, Road Science and SemMaterials. Chad obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. When not working, Chad enjoys fly fishing, golf and sporting events. He is based in Charlotte, NC.

Marie joined Associated Asphalt in 2014 with over 20 years of Human Resource and Safety Management experience. Her career includes leadership roles in public accounting, manufacturing, contact center and distribution center management. Marie holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management and Sustainability from Mary Baldwin University and is both HRCI and SHRM certified as a Senior Human Resources professional. She leads the Company’s human resources functions including Recruitment & Retention, Employee Engagement, Performance Management and Benefits Administration. She is a native of the Roanoke Valley; is active in the community and serves on the Board of Directors of Family Services of the Roanoke Valley.

Michael joined Associated Asphalt in early 2018 following 18+ years in the asphalt and petroleum refining industry in metro Atlanta. He is currently responsible for the sales and marketing of roofing & industrial asphalt products and assists the supply team as needed in these areas. He has been active in many industry groups such as the Asphalt Institute and is a graduate of the inaugural EPIC leadership training class at AI. He and his wife Lesley along with their two children have recently relocated to Roanoke from Alabama.

Sean joined Associated Asphalt in 2017, coinciding with the expansion of Associated's supply needs based on the acquisition of 13 new terminals. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Accounting and also earned his CPA. Prior to Associated, Sean worked in a variety of roles in the petroleum industry from wellhead to end user. Sean and his family reside in Roanoke and spend their time enjoying all that the outdoors has to offer.

Andy Hetz came to Associated with over 30 years of experience in the environmental, health, and safety field working for industry, regulatory agencies, and engineering consulting. Immediately prior to Associated Asphalt he served for 12 years as a Principal EHS Engineer with Celanese Acetate, LLC in Narrows, Virginia. His areas of expertise included environmental and safety regulations governing the chemical manufacturing industry as well as auditing and developing safety procedures for heavy industry. Andy lives in the greater Roanoke Valley and is enjoys golfing in his free time.

Kerry joined the Associated Asphalt team in May of 2018 following 22 years in Information Technology with AT&T. He has a background in software architecture supporting human resources, payroll, sales, and finance functional areas. Throughout his career, he has held roles in multiple IT disciplines including programming, application & hardware support, database administration, and network design. Outside the work, he rehabs houses and participates in car shows.

Greg joined Associated Asphalt in 2017 and is responsible for the company’s Marine Transportation requirements both domestically and internationally. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Maritime Business from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Prior to Associated, Greg worked in an assortment of roles within the maritime industry, starting in the dry commodities sector before transitioning into the petroleum transportation business with a respected tugboat and barging company. Greg is based in Fairfield County, CT, and enjoys spending his downtime golfing and coaching his kids' sporting interests.

Dave Cohan became General Counsel of Associated Asphalt in 2013. He works with the company’s management team and outside counsel to address the company’s legal needs, including corporate and antitrust compliance, contract negotiation and drafting, mergers and acquisitions, and employment, environmental, banking, real estate, intellectual property and maritime issues. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Roanoke Bar Association and on the Virginia Bar Association’s Intellectual Property and Information Technology Council. Dave is active in the Roanoke Ski Club. Dave holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Rutgers University and received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1989.

Ken came to the Company in 2004 with almost 20 years of Accounting Management experience. He is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in Virginia and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Tech. Ken leads our Accounting functions including Invoicing, Tax Compliance, Cash Management, Product Inventory and Payroll. He is a member of the Virginia Society of CPAs. He enjoys golfing, Virginia Tech Football and Muscle Cars.
